Summary / Introduction
Android Market has grown exponentially over the past year and has a lot to attack attributed to a barrage of hardware devices in the world. Samsung has secured itself as one of the major players in the market Android device, striking his head with the giants smartphone HTC and Motorola. With an impressive slew of premium products for mobile devices under its belt, which include high-end smartphone Samsung Galaxy and S 7-inch tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab, Korean electronics monolith breaks low-end Android party with the new entry-level touchscreen smartphone - Samsung Galaxy 5th This little 5 Galaxy launches Android OS v2.1 (Eclair). Shame that not much is expected Froyo yet, but definitely a step of 1.6 (The Ring) is offering an outdoor market. This pits the head while Citrus Motorola, Sony XPERIA X8/X10, LG and HTC GT540 Optimus Tattoo. For the sub-USD200 (SRP: RM699) device packs quite a buffet of options. Which begs the question - is there such a thing as "cheap and cheerful"? Read on.
At first glance, it looks incredibly similar to the Galaxy 5 Samsung Corby own, except for an additional four hardware shortcut buttons at the bottom. It is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and the scant 102g, it is very easy, previše.Izvana the shiny plastic, and overall the phone feels cheap. Having said that, it's pretty nice and comfortable to hold and nošenje.3.5mm audio jack is integrated on top as standard, while the left side contains the hardware volume buttons and the miniUSB port. On the back is a 2MP camera lens without flash.
to access the microSD slot, you will need to remove the back cover. Be careful not to break noktima.Kartica 2GB microSD includes standard (upgradeable to 16 GB ).
the
The screen is 2.8 "QVGA TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen display offers 240 x 320 resolution. Probably the smallest screen on the Android phone, such as Sony XPERIA X10. For Android fans, you'll be disappointed because there is no support for multitouch. But that does not comes with Samsung's live wallpapers from the box. Boo. screen quality is not much to shout about though decently sharp and bright enough, but for the price, up from the resistive touch screen in some competitive products .
After a small touch screen device can be annoying, especially when it comes to typing on the touchscreen keyboard. In portrait mode, the keyboard feels very cramped. Typing QWERTY in portrait can be error-laden (maybe because of my fat fingers). This can be fixed in landscape mode, thankfully, where the keys are better distributed. Users have the option of using Swype text entry is quite innovative, or 3x4 keypad. I find the touch screen responds if errors drive with accidentally touched. This is not to blame the phone itself, more because of some UI quirks of the Android OS.
features
Whether it's building cars or electronics, Koreans sure know how to play the game vrijednosti.Galaxy 5 is no different and just packed with features. All you need to on the phone is pretty much been on tanjuru.Energičan 600MHz processor powers the device. You can get high-speed 2.5G (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G access with HSDPA (up to 7.2Mbps), Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g Bluetooth v2.1, and an accelerometer, 2MP fixed focus camera that supports video recording , FM radio, 170MB internal memory with a 2GB microSD (up to 16GB supported), and A-GPS.
The phone comes bundled with Samsung's very own TouchWiz interface and Swype (Samsung ultrafast input function), not to mention Samsung's Social Hub application was first seen on the big brother of the galaxy S. It is also armed with HTML5 browser, expanded reality app from Layar, support for MPEG4, H.263 and H.264 video formats, and Samsung's AllShare platform that allows easy sharing of media over a range of DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance)-certified Samsung devices such as laptops and TV . You can even use the Galaxy 5 as a remote for the Samsung TV or laptop. Divan.
performance
Before I even got on the phone, I back up my contacts / calendar from my previous phone and the Mac and then synced to Google. I installed a free desktop application to handle all media sync on my Mac. doubleTwist is very much like iTunes, and even connects to the Android Market. Pay a $ 1.99 premium and also get wireless synchronization via something called AirSync. You will be able to not only download free and paid applications, and podcasts (limited, but still) and buy music from AmazonMP3. Synchronization is surprisingly smoothly with doubleTwist and it even recognizes iTunes playlists. One of the first things I did when I got the phone to install some of my favorite applications - Twitter, TweetDeck, Facebook, Opera Mini, WhatsApp, Foursquare and angry birds across the package Android Market app. I also installed Advanced Task Killer free memory manually, as I anticipated the shortcomings of 170MB memory database. Download and install seamless and hassle-free.
Once you have used it as their primary phone for the past 4 days I found the phone is generally pleasing and intuitive to use, if a bit spor.600MHz processor carries quite well in general. This is not a sprint queen safely, and can sometimes choke and lag when moving and running multiple applications. Typing no noticeable lag and movement through the long list of contacts can take up too much. There have been cases where the screen is just a Pitch Black for 15-20 seconds while the processor is trying to cope with the load transfer between applications. Without a dedicated GPU, also grappling with some games, including the angry birds.
One of the main rant would be the battery. While scouring the Android forums, I read the user receiving 2-3 days of battery life. Very brave, ambitious claims. No such luck with mine. With 3G and everything else pretty much off, the Galaxy is good for 6-7 hours at the top before I join in. I keep the cable with me just in case. I'm not sure if this is limited to my review unit, but I am far from impressed. Turn off 3G and running just on the edge gave me a little more mileage. I have kept running apps to a minimum, and even tweaked the brightness, the background data (synchronization), and notices. The tasks are minimal voice calls, tweeting, SMS-ing and messages via WhatsApp and periodically check on Facebooku.Kazna for multitasking? Something to think about.
Apps-wise, all you need to start is already pre-installed - messages, calendar, writing and Go (text editor), maps, browser, Sat, e-mail, music, Gmail, YouTube, Talk (IM), calculator, camera, and the market. Set the domain e-mail and Gmail accounts was pretty painless. Since it is very 'social' phone, contacts lists are unique to your Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, and everything that you are not authorized to synchronize. I do not appreciate the unique-sync-to-the-cloud-type-thing, and the ability to show / not show the contacts based on your preferences.
2MP camera is nothing to shout about it. No autofocus, no flash. Transports me back to the old days of phone features. This is a decent camera, though, just do not expect the winning images. Forget about shooting in low light conditions, as well as most if not all cameras with similar spec, prone to major noise and distortion.
Audio quality is above average, loud and convincingly. No complaints about signal quality and reception.
Abstract
All in all, Galaxy 5 is small, lightweight and inexpensive entry-level Android smartphone. If you can get pass a small, restrictive screen and a little sluggish performance, it's a pretty good introduction to Android, particularly if you upgrade from a feature phone. This is one of the cheapest Android phones out there, feature-packed and offers great bang-for-buck. Telcos could easily give this phone away for free, bundled with a contract. Does "cheap and cheerful" exist? Personally, I'd spend a little more (ok, a lot more) for more spec-ED Android device, because I usually equate cheap crap, I feel, ultimately, dilutes the Android experience and brand. I'm still not entirely convinced that it is a cheap way to go, and I'll leave that discussion for another day. For now, Galaxy 5 could be the closest "cheap and cheerful", as you can get.
