It all depends on how well the conversion work in the first place.
So with my TV calibrated it was time for some tests in the real world. So I did what every family does not ... Connect 2TB HDD 1080p content and hundreds of movies and TV series that I legally own. But before that I watched a regular TV.
Testing
Now keep in mind that I do not have equipment to scientific testing. I just looked at the real world of television material and calibrated using a method that any normal person uses.
First some general remarks about the testing process and results. I looked at the contents into three categories: SD, HD and games. I took my time and got a good look at various aspects of image quality, especially the movement, color, black, and the general level of sharpness.

HD
I started with a leap year. This new 2010 romantic comedy was a perfect candidate for the beautiful scenery of Ireland. It was really smooth. Some do not like this, but I do. Leap year, which ended in a completely dark room. Everything rests on the go. It is buttery smooth and almost surreal look about it. Some will not like this, but no matter what setting I could not get rid of it completely. I also noticed some artifacts around objects, but it's not as bad as what happened only once. I would not have seen it if I was paying attention to the film.
color reproduction and black levels are spot-on again. Although I think most all-LED local dimming sets could be done better, but it is only visible in a direct comparison environment. And it's not like your neighbors to buy one and install it next to your display. If someone has experience please contact me and I will remove that statement.
Blu-ray or legally owned 1080p content is amazing on this set and the real reason why someone would own the television of this caliber in the first place. Color reproduction is excellent and the black levels on the spot. Motion is not always handled perfectly. I saw some items, and some people will find it unnatural, regardless of the setting. If you're one of those people, but it could be your deal breaker?
Gaming

Eyeglasses

conversion
Samsung biggest change for 2010 is 3D. It is not surprising move, rivals such as Sony have pushed it and everyone knew that coming this year. But I still do not have any comparison, because Samsung is the only one out there with a whole set of available 3D. I saw a Sony 3D engine, and back to the demonstrations, but can not use it for comparison because they are running a special demo. For this part of the review I tried a special 2D to 3D conversion on a wide range of media. I could not test the native 3D engine, because I do not have a 3D Blu-ray player. Sony PS3 update already!
2D to 3D conversion is very easy to use. There is a button on the remote saying 3D, and press it into a real-time starts. Further tuning is possible in the menu controls things like the depth of simulation, color correction and so on. For this test I kept everything on default, because the depth of simulation in the maximum error too pointed, and the lower value of the whole 3D experience an average experience. I started with SD.

Of course, Your Mileage May vary, some suggest you borrow more than other systems.
I popped in my Avatar and PS3 hit 3D on the remote. Mind you I have not seen this movie in 3D in theaters so it is not mentioned there. I found a lot of cases, crosstalk, and that was not the only problem. Some of the objects showed "halo" around them, some are not sharp and were not as far behind as you need it to be. This experience is very hard, so I use it a lot. Original 3D games can not change your mind, but now in 3D games is not going with the Samsung C8700 least.
So here's what I think about the conversion system of Samsung. For May, but mileage will vary. Some TV shows / movies do not work too great, especially with lots of moving objects. I also found SD 3D way more frustrating than HD 3D, the other showing very sharp textures and objects. Games for now does not go with a conversion, a nice trick that will not last. Also do not go looking 3D in resting position. You can watch the 3D glasses in 90-degree angle. Doing so will result in black screen. Conclusions
Samsung is a great job with the C8700 LED television. Its design is beautiful and will satisfy most customers - but not all. Watching SD is a bit of pain on the big screen by a few feet of distance for viewing is advised. HD content looks great, though, with great black levels and incredible color reproduction. However, over a smooth motion can interfere with some and please others.
3D conversion system is very easy to use and can work great. Especially HD movies are converting well. Fast-paced games or SD should remain in the 2D area now.
You really can not go wrong with the Samsung C8700. This is a great television but be prepared to have some minor drawbacks to this set of silver piece of engineering brilliance.
